Around The Rugged Rock…

Keep Doing It!

Recording again, and it feels good – Starting with some easy blues chugging – This isn’t how I usually start this 12 bar thing I do – but it sounds OK so I went with it, and I am quite pleased with the result, even if I didn’t manage to count up to four properly the first couple of times!

I start part of the way in to my practiced track, completely missing the beginning off – so I am pretty quickly onto the minor Pentatonic bit I do, right up to that high E and then all the way back down to chugging.… Read the rest

The Square Is Rocking!

Saturday night at the beginning of September· It’s not late, but there is a 1am curfew in place, so people are out early.

Half past ten and people are already in good spirits. There is a party atmosphere, and despite some places being quiet, others are full and rocking.

Sweltering Hot!

August has only just finished, so it’s a hot and sweaty night, but it isn’t stifling, and it’s getting cooler as the night progresses.… Read the rest

Back To The Future!

It has been a heck of a long time since I posted any live rock music – almost exactly a year! And since I have been practicing like a crazy loon since then, I hope I sound better now, than I did a year ago!

It is also the first session I recorded using my new compressor pedal, which is plugged in, and turned on throughout the whole session, with the settings unchanged, and pretty much as they appear in the video – I love that sustain turned nearly up to the max!… Read the rest

The Behringer CS400

So This Is Christmas!

So I read some stuff about compressor and sustain pedals, and decided I wanted one. The question was, which one should I buy – there are so many different ones out there!

I originally planned to splash out a bit extra, as a Christmas present to myself, on the Boss CS2, as I had seen Chris Rea talking about his Boss CS2, on a YouTube interview I saw.… Read the rest

The Donner DP-2 Guitar Pedal Power Supply

Daisy Chain Blues!

As the amount of foot pedals I use, slowly grew over the years, my trusty daisy chain, which I used to power them, became, not only incapable of powering all of them simultaneously, but seemed to transform, from being a useful tool, into a messy, plastic spaghetti like tangle, that produced all kinds of irritating electrical hums, buzzes and crackles.

When I had just a couple of pedals, the daisy chain was fine – but with more than five pedals, the situation became unworkable!… Read the rest

Short But Sweet!

It’s a lovely sunny day – just perfect for a walk along the beach front. Bars are playing pleasing music on the front, and though quiet, have an enjoyable relaxed atmosphere. Customers on terraces sip at their drinks and watch the beach world go by, as sunbathers lie, or frolic nearby on the sand, in the warm autumn sunshine.

The beach is quiet for October – The sun worshipers are well spaced out in their pre booked beach plots.… Read the rest

Of Strings On Strats – & Sounding Brill!

Different Strings For Different Things!

Over the decades in which I have been playing the guitar, I have tried out very many different types of guitar strings indeed, some I have liked, and bought again – while others, I have not! – As I not only posses electric guitars, but also acoustic, classical, and bass guitars, I have experimented with quite a large variety of different types, makes, and gauges of strings.… Read the rest

On The Rocks!

Sitting alone on the rocks, right down in the absolute corner of the Rincon de Loix, I can see, stretched out before me, the whole of the Levante beach. The atmosphere is idyllic, with no other sound than that of the crystal clear Mediterranean sea, gently lapping around the base of the large boulders upon which I am sitting.

It’s Friday the 9th of October 2020, which is a fiesta here, and because of that, and because it is such a beautiful day, there are quite a lot of people milling around, despite the covid crisis.… Read the rest

Levante Beach On A Nice Sunny Day!

This was a short walk along the Levante beach, on my way to the pub! There had been a bad storm the day before, called Alex, which we just caught the tail end of, that had brought rain, and plenty of wind with it on the Friday, but left Saturday the third, when I recorded this, fresh and lovely.

There was still quite a strong, but not unpleasant breeze, which you can hear on the video, and clearly see, as little white waves crash unmenacingly onto the beach – but the sun was warm, the air was fresh, and the atmosphere felt like it had just been washed clean.… Read the rest

Walkabouts!

When I am not busy rocking, or practicing – When my fingers need a break, or my brain does, the chances are, I am on the way to the pub for a pint, or maybe two! – And on my way, I often record some video of the streets and squares of Benidorm, attempting to capture the atmosphere in the street.

I have created a youtube channel, so I can share these videos with anyone who may be interested in watching life go by in Benidorm, as I know that there are many people who would love to be here right now, that are unable to, because of travel restrictions and quarantines.… Read the rest
