Recording again, and it feels good – Starting with some easy blues chugging – This isn’t how I usually start this 12 bar thing I do – but it sounds OK so I went with it, and I am quite pleased with the result, even if I didn’t manage to count up to four properly the first couple of times!
I start part of the way in to my practiced track, completely missing the beginning off – so I am pretty quickly onto the minor Pentatonic bit I do, right up to that high E and then all the way back down to chugging.
Next up is that sweet major scale – which, to be honest, has come out a bit dirtier than I had realized – it still needs work, but the idea is great – I think it could do with being a bit longer too, though I am not real sure where else I can go with it – I must try and find some inspiration somewhere lol!
For the last bit I go into a bit of Phrygian – which sounds cool – and the complete run down the scale a couple of times, just to introduce the new sound, helps getting into it, so that first high note – which sadly, I mess up a bit in this version, doesn’t come right out of the blue – So the track is slowly morphing and improving.
I seem to have found a new ending too! – There is a nice high 7th which I can slide up to root, and gives it a nice finished off sound – I will be doing that again!
I set up a loop – and its a great one, even if it is just two chords – a nice sound and no horrid gap or mess, though I have the volume set too loud, so it kicks in absolutely horrid when the loop starts to replay.
I start to put some stuff on top, and at first it’s a bit rough! – I am trying to put major pentatonic over the top, and so I have to change the scale I am playing every time there is a chord change! – It’s only two chords so it shouldn’t be that difficult lol – but it does take a bit of getting used to – and it’s easy to get confused and play the wrong scale.
But eventually I seem to get settled, and it starts to sound almost reasonable! I will be doing a lot more of this – at least I hope so!
And then the same old problem as always – I don’t know how to stop the loop nice and clean – so it always sounds like a car crash! – Oh well – just keep practicing as they say!
I take some time out from the two chord chugging sounds and make some nice echoey sounds – which is fun! I have echo and delay on that – so it’s a really nice complicated echo repeat sound, with loads of twiddles – Yeah I like messing around, doing fun things like that – I will be playing with these sounds more!
Back to the same two chord chugging again but in minor!
Just two chords – Em and Am – some nice chugging, with a good base sound and some nice treble over the top – then I hit the looper – and ready to add stuff on top. I seem to mess the loop up a but, and there is a loud nasty sound – not really sure why that happened – I am sure, with more practice I will be able to stop that happening lol.
I am experimenting with this one – as usual – what sounds good over what? What scales can I play, and over which bits? – Mostly I get it right, or at least not too far out – though sometimes I mess up a bit – still the overall result isn’t too bad!
Since I am doing loops – let’s have a go at this one! – It’s still very much a work in progress, and it needs a lot of progress before it’s really ready – but here is a raw version – I hope to post some much better ones as time goes by!
So I am not worrying if there are a few bumps and lumps – as long as it doesn’t sound too awful – and it’s recognizable, at least I hope it is! – It will get better with practice – and anyway – it’s great fun to play – and when I hit the third, or is it the fourth, loop, and things really start to get complicated -it finally starts to sound OK!
I may not be able to do all the twiddly bits – but I can do some of them – there will be more next time!
Arrrrg – that horrid jarring sudden ending again – I have to hit the button twice to stop it, and I even manage to mess that up – I really am going to have to do something about that!
When I have finished self indulging – and getting totally lost in sounds – it’s time to go back and practice my scales over some two chord chugging. One of these days I am going to get around to adding a third chord lol – its gonna be a I IV V at first – but even that will be more interesting than just two – but hey, don’t try to run, till you get good at walking – so the 7ths and stuff are going to have to wait a while longer yet!
Hope you enjoyed – and stay tuned for more – next time – whenever that will be – It depends how much I am gigging, and how much time I get!
Till next Time –
Tim B. Green!
